Social Impact Investing – Investing for a better tomorrow

Social impact investing has experienced significant growth in recent years with some estimates putting the total assets invested globally at USD77 billion. Many foundations and trusts are now looking to invest in sustainable businesses that can directly tackle poverty and social issues rather than solely engage in direct philanthropy.

In Malaysia, we are only beginning to explore what social impact investing means. This event was the fourth installation of the Thought Leadership Series. The keynote speaker was Dr. James Gifford, CIO Head of Impact Investing for UBS Wealth. The panellists consisted of Agensi Innovasi Malaysia (AIM), Suka Society, Global Peace Foundation and Ecoworld Foundation. The guests included corporate investors and various NGOs.
